A PROPOSITO DEI RECENTI AVVENIMENTI DI NAGAA HAMMADI

A mezzanotte, davanti alla chiesa copto-ortodossa del Villaggio di Nagaa Hammadi, 400 km a sud del Cairo, dopo la vigilia del Natale ortodosso che cade il 7 di gennaio, una mano assassina ha sparato sui nostri fratelli mentre uscivano dalla Sacra Celebrazione. Otto persone sono morte e decine sono i feriti, alcuni dei quali in modo grave. La nostra Chiesa che sta subendo angherie grandissime si forgia sulla sofferenza e sul dolore che quotidianamente si infrange sulle nostre comunità cristiane. Pochi conoscono quanto sangue e quanto dolore incontrano i nostri fedeli in Cristo, per il sol fatto che hanno scelto di seguire il Vangelo, senza alcun compromesso. Pochi parlano dei soprusi, dei fanatismi e delle violenze che ricadono quotidianamente su coloro che hanno scelto di essere cristiani, non accettando alcuna scorciatoia. Il martirio è la via che i nostri fratelli stanno seguendo in più parti del nostro amato Egitto.La situazione è seria e dovrebbe essere meritevole di attenzione da parte di tutti. Non possiamo più affermare che ciò che è accaduto è avvenuto lontano dalla nostra Italia. Le crude e cruente immagini  che ci giungono tramite la televisione o internet; il dolore di intere famiglie che devono temere il loro essere cristiani; gli occhi smarriti e spauriti dei bambini; il terrore di chi si sente perseguitato; le immagini di morte che escono dalla terra d’Egitto, che una volta era la “culla dell’Umanità” ed ora cimitero per tanti; il terrore di tanti miei fratelli spaventati e intimoriti dal fatto di non avere  più un lavoro stabile, solo perché amano Cristo, con la conseguenza di vivere nella povertà  assoluta, non può più essere nascosto o ammantato dal velo dell’ipocrisia. L’avere le braccia spalancate su dette problematiche è un dovere che discende dal messaggio evangelico e che non può essere in alcun modo non considerato o peggio,interpretato a “proprio comodo”. I miei fratelli lanciano un forte grido di dolore che la società italiana deve raccogliere. Abbiamo l’obbligo-dovere di intervenire tutti insieme affinché tali situazioni abbiano ad avere fine. Solo se ci impegneremo tutti a riaffermare che la legge dell’Amore è il fondamento della solidarietà e che nessuno che  ami definirsi seguace di Cristo può sottrarsi al dovere di rispetto che si deve  ai cristiani d’Egitto, la mano di Erode potrà essere fermata! Il sangue degli innocenti non bagni mai più la terra d’Egitto!

REGARDING RECENT EVENTS HAPPENED IN NAGAA HAMMADI

Around midnight the 6^th of January, in front of the Coptic-orthodox church in the town of Nagaa Hammadi, 400 km from Cairo, after the Holy Mass of Christmas, Islamic extremists have fired with guns against our brothers while they were coming out of the church. Eight youngsters have died and ten were hurt, some of them in extremely bad conditions. Our Church that is suffering huge vexations, is shaped by the hardship and pain that, constantly, day by day, Christian communities experience. Very few know how much blood and pain meet the followers in Christ, for the only reason that they have decided to follow the word of God. Very few talk about outrages, fanaticism and violence among them who decide to be Christians, excluding any short-cuttings. The martyrdom is the path that our brothers are following, in several parts of our beloved Egypt. The situation is serious and it deserves attention from everybody. We can't say anymore that what happen is far from Italy. The harsh, cruel and bloody pictures that we receive through internet and TVs; the fear to be Christians that all families now have; the horror of being persecuted; pictures of death taken in the land of Egypt, when one day was “the Cradle Of Humanity”, now is a graveyard for dead Christians; the panic that many of my brothers fear, for the fact that they won’t have regular jobs, just because they love Christ, living in absolute poverty as consequence. My brothers are giving out yells of suffering that the Italian state must listen to. Only if we keep devoting to re-declare that the law of Love is the foundation of solidarity, and no one who loves to describe himself as a believer in Christ can back out of offering his respect to the Coptic Christians in Egypt. Herod’s hand must be stopped! The blood of victims must no more wet the land of Egypt!
